Nailing your LinkedIn profile photo: 7 mistakes to avoid
Your photo, your first impression
On LinkedIn, your portrait is seen before your name. Here are the 7 mistakes that work against it.
- The selfie. Outstretched arm, facial distortion: absolutely avoid.
- The busy background. Kitchen, crowd, another brand’s logo: prefer a neutral background.
- The cropped wedding photo. A stranger’s shoulder doesn’t look professional.
- Harsh light. Full sun digs into features; crafted light flatters.
- A frozen expression. An engaging gaze beats a forced smile.
- Framing too wide or too tight. The bust, with a bit of air, works best.
- A dated image. A ten-year-old photo creates a mismatch at first meeting.
The good news
A professional corporate portrait is done in 15 to 30 minutes. In my studio in the Waterloo area (20 min from Brussels), I direct you pose after pose: there’s nothing you need to “know how to do”.
