How to prepare for a newborn photo session

Sleeping newborn during a studio photo session in the Waterloo area

When should you plan your session?

The newborn session ideally takes place within the first 15 days of life, a period when baby still sleeps a lot and it is generally easier to respect his or her natural positions and rhythm.

Since the date of a birth remains unpredictable, there is no need to set your session months in advance. Simply let me know as soon as your baby is born, or in the days that follow, so that we can find a slot together within the first two weeks.

Newborn sessions are organised on weekdays, preferably in the morning. Slots are deliberately kept free in my schedule to welcome babies after their birth, with priority for families who have already done their maternity session with me.

In the case of a scheduled caesarean or induction, we can of course plan the date of the session in advance.

What should you bring?

  • A change of clothes for baby and everything needed for feeding
  • A dummy, if your baby uses one
  • A swaddle, comforter or small object that holds special meaning for you

Everything needed for the photographs (wraps, fabrics, backdrops and props) is available at the studio. We will also take the time to choose together what best matches your taste and the mood you want for your images.

A session at your baby’s pace

The studio, located in Vieux-Genappe near Waterloo, is heated and designed to comfortably welcome little ones and their parents: changing table, a space for breastfeeding or bottle-feeding, a microwave and everything needed to take our time.

A newborn session usually lasts between 2 and 3 hours. This allows us to follow your baby’s rhythm entirely, with as many breaks as needed to feed, change and soothe your baby, or simply give him or her the time needed.

There is never a race against the clock: your baby’s comfort, well-being and safety always remain my priority.
